Yellow hawkweed       (Hieracium caespitosum)

Yellow hawkweedYellow hawkweed (Hieracium caespitosum) plants contain milky juice. Leaves are mostly basal, somewhat hairy.
A perennial which spreads by three methods: windborne seeds (similar to dandelions), below ground rhizomes (horizontal roots) and above ground stolons (runners). Yellow hawkweed (up to 3 ft. tall) appears to be more aggressive than Orange hawkweed.
Can form near monocultures with few other plants apparent on the dominated sites.
Good vegetative cover helps avoid initial infestation but can invade and dominate healthy sites.
